Dynamic Workflow Management: A Framework for Modeling Workflows
نویسندگان
چکیده
Current workflow management systems do not provide adequate support for workflow modeling. Real life work processes are much richer in variations and more dynamic than is expressed in a typical workflow model. Users need to be able to adjust workloads and modify workflow models on-the-fly. In addition, data about workflow executions are analyzed with process analysis/simulation tools to evaluate design alternatives, so workflow models and data must be structured to reflect the questions that managers and designers are likely to ask. In this paper, we present Dynamic Workflow Management (DWM), a framework for modeling workflows that aims to satisfy these requirements. DWM provides high level packaged task templates for composing task sequences, a MOP-like structure based on dynamic memory theory to organize the task sequences into flexible workflow models, and four perspectives into a workflow model geared toward different users' interests. We illustrate these features of DWM with a case study of an interlibrary loan process and discuss its application in workflow enactment and

In such scenarios, a need arises for a to...
متن کاملSupporting Workflow Management Systems with Traceability
Workflow Management Systems need to support organizations adapt their workflows to meet changing environments and business processes. We propose a traceability based knowledge management approach to support such a capability in WFMS. We present a framework for representing traceability knowledge to capture the context in which workflows are specified and evolved. We discuss the functionalities ...
متن کاملVerification of Temporal Constraints for Concurrent Workflows
Today’s workflow management systems have not sufficiently dealt with time information, which involves time modeling at build-time and time management at run-time. As a consequence, workflow management systems are short of the ability to support the checking of temporal constraints at run-time. Although several approaches have been devised to tackle this problem, they are limited to a single wor...
متن کاملDefining Flexible Workflow Execution Behaviors
In this paper, we focus on the definition and adaptation of the execution behavior of a task in order to support flexible workflows in the presence of distributed workflow enactment. We argue that an adequate behavior definition is the basis for both, modeling less-restrictive workflows in advance as well as supporting dynamic workflow changes. We show how different control flow dependency type...
